Mark McCleese has been teaching for 12 years and dancing for 20 years. Mark is very excited to be moving back to Michigan from California to teach at the studio! He was recently the head of the Dance Department at the Center Stage Studio Performing Arts Studio in California. Mark has judged for several dance competitions including Showbiz and Primetime for the last decade. His students have placed first overall at many competitions and he has also won many choreography, costume and special awards. Mark has taught master classes at many studios throughout the United States. He has performed professionally in many shows including Tony and Tina’s Wedding, Fiddler on the Roof and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Deborah Alrutz has been dancing for over 50 years and teaching since the early 80's. She has taught ballet at studios in Wisconsin and Michigan and has taught with Mr Mark since they both began with Andrea Redman Dance Academy. Her focus is on classical ballet technique and proper body placement. Deborah has 2 daughters and is an engineer at GM.
Shayna Hessell has been dancing for 24 years and teaching at MDM Dance Project for 4 years. Ballet/Pointe and Contemporary are her favorite to teach but she also loves teaching Jazz, Tap, and Lyrical. She also enjoys working with MDM’s award winning company. She feels blessed to work with hard working, smiling young girls every week.
Shayna graduated with honors from Michigan State University with a dual degree in Elementary Education and Spanish along with a minor in mathematics and a specialization in dance. She worked for Artsbridge of America where she incorporated dance into elementary curriculum. She has performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Rockers Soccer Team, Shock Basketball team, in the Rochester Christmas Parade, Troy Daze Family Fair, many shows at MSU, and musicals in high school. She truly enjoys combining her passions of dance and teaching!
Rachel Deratany has been dancing since the young age of 3! She grew up training and competing with Mary Skiba’s School of Dance in Clinton Township, MI. This is Miss Rachel’s fourth year of teaching dance. She is currently pursuing degrees in both elementary education and dance education at Oakland University. She is also a member of Oakland University’s Ballroom Dance Team where studies and competes in several types of ballroom dance. She has previously competed and won in ballroom competitions for routines in East Coast Swing. Rachel is a former member of the University of Michigan’s Ballroom Team and has worked with dance professionals from Dancing with the Stars.
Brianna Bedsole started dancing at a young age and has been teaching for 7 years. Growing up she participated in an award-winning dance company that travelled around the country for competitions and performances. Brianna continued her education at Hope College where she earned degrees in Dance Performance/Choreography and Communication. While at Hope she was exposed to many great teachers through classes, as a member of the college's jazz and tap company iDt, and while working with her peers for student concerts. Brianna is excited to pass that knowledge on to the next generation of dancers.
Emily started dancing at age 8 at Kathy's School of dance in Durand, Michigan where she took classes in tap, ballet, pointe, jazz, gymnastics, clogging, and poms. There she was a member of the competition team performing, solos, small group, and large group pieces both regionally and nationally. She continued her training from 2009-2011 at Big City Dance Center in Wixom where again she was on the company team competing regionally. Currently Emily is student at Oakland University working towards two degrees the first being Dance and the other Pre-Physical Therapy with an addition of a minor in Exercise Science. Also at OU she is a member of the Oakland University Repertory Dance Company learning and performing various pieces on a regular basis. Now she is teaching acro and leaps and turns classes here at MDM Dance Project!
Jennie Angelo has been dancing since she was 5 years old at studios including Deborah's Stage Door, Andrea Redman Dance Acadamy and MDM Dance Project. She was also on the Stoney Creek High School Jv Dance team her freshman year, and Varsity Dance Team for the rest of her high school career. She is now going to Oakland University to beome a Buisness Major and a Dance Minor. She is currently on the Oakland University Athletics Dance Team. This will be her second year teaching at MDM Dance Project, and her first year helping out with The MDM Dance Project Company Dancers!
Jennifer Kolpasky is a senior at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester, Michigan. She began her dance career at the age of 5 and has participated in many conventions, most recently the Motor City Tap Festival in Detroit. She has performed at the competitive level for over 7 years and continues her dance studies under the direction of Mark McClesse of MDM Dance Project.
